The Girl Next Door
Variations: Tomboy, Catholic School Girl
A real salt-of-the-earth kind of gal, the Girl Next Door is pretty, decent, responsible, and resourceful. Like Rachel on Friends and Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, she’s not a fan of confrontation, but she’ll do what has to be done. Only a fool would mistake her kindness for weakness; she won’t strike first, but she has tremendous strength of will. She wants to see the world as a basically good place, so she can sometimes be too trusting, but don’t underestimate her. She can take care of herself.
On the Track
In a cute uniform that’s attractive, comfortable, and game-ready (the scorekeepers can easily read her name and number), the Girl Next Door is a consistent player who gives her all. While she might not be the star of the team, she’s never going to cheat, either. She joined Roller Derby to make friends and have fun; winning might be the icing, but she really loves the cake. She’s approachable and inclusive with her fans, always ready to make them feel like part of the Roller Derby family.
Off the Track
In her “real life,” the Girl Next Door is an ideal team member: hard-working, genial, the kind of girl managers and co-workers are pleased to have on their projects because she gets the job done with a smile and minimal fuss. Among her friends, she’s prized for her easygoing nature and thoughtfulness. She’s not a pushover, but believes that life is better when everyone gets along. She can turn on the fireworks when appropriately inspired—but it’s a relief for her to return to an even keel.
